Welcome
The overall goal of the California Geothermal Energy Collaborative (CGEC) is to expand the sustainable use of geothermal resources to meet California’s energy needs. The CGEC coordinates activities with the geothermal industry, local, state and federal agencies, and other entities to focus statewide geothermal activities.
California has the largest geothermal installed capacity in the country with over 2000 MW. Geothermal energy provides significant benefits in terms of improved air quality, increased diversity in electric energy sources, local and state revenues, and employment. Still, geothermal energy development in California faces a number of impediments.
Given the notable amount of installed geothermal-based power and the potential for significant quantities of additional geothermal-based electric power in the state, the Collaborative can support geothermal energy activities, which help the state meet its electricity needs.
